Purpose of This Health Guarantee
Furry German Shepherds provides this Health Guarantee to give buyers clear expectations and practical protection when welcoming a puppy into their home. German Shepherds are a large, active breed, and long term wellbeing depends on genetics, early care, nutrition, exercise, and sensible training. This document explains what we guarantee, what we ask from owners, and how concerns are handled. The goal is fairness for both puppy and owner, with the puppy’s welfare placed first.
What We Guarantee
Furry German Shepherds guarantees that each puppy is in good general health at the time of sale and free from signs of serious illness that would prevent normal feeding, movement, breathing, or normal puppy behaviour. Each puppy is supplied with a record of veterinary care completed before departure, including parasite prevention and age appropriate checks. Any known concerns identified before pickup will be disclosed in writing.
Furry German Shepherds also guarantees that the puppy is sold as a companion animal unless a separate working, breeding, or show agreement is provided in writing. No guarantee is made that a puppy will meet a particular size, colour depth, coat length, ear carriage timeline, drive level, or adult temperament outcome, as these can be influenced by development and environment. Guidance can be provided on typical development stages and training priorities.
Veterinary Examination Requirement
Buyers must arrange a veterinary examination within seventy two hours of taking the puppy home, excluding public holidays and weekends where clinics are closed. Proof of examination is required if a claim is made. This early check protects the puppy, confirms baseline health, and provides a record from an independent veterinarian.
If a veterinarian identifies a serious contagious illness or a life threatening condition that is reasonably determined to have been present prior to purchase, the buyer must notify Furry German Shepherds within twenty four hours of the diagnosis and provide written veterinary findings, including test results where relevant.
Congenital and Hereditary Conditions Covered
German Shepherds can be predisposed to certain inherited or developmental conditions. Furry German Shepherds cannot promise a life without medical issues, yet responsible breeding and early care reduce risk. This guarantee covers congenital or hereditary defects that severely affect quality of life or normal function, when diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian and supported by appropriate evidence.
Covered conditions are those that are present from birth or strongly genetic in origin and result in significant impairment. Examples may include severe cardiac defects, serious neurological conditions, or other major congenital abnormalities that materially limit normal life. Orthopaedic and joint conditions are addressed separately because they can be influenced heavily by growth rate, diet, exercise, and injury.
Hip and Elbow Development Statement
Hip and elbow dysplasia are multifactorial conditions. Genetics matter, yet management matters as well, especially during growth. Furry German Shepherds breeds with careful selection and aims to reduce risk through responsible pairing, early handling, and guidance for owners.
This guarantee provides support if a puppy is diagnosed with clinically significant hip or elbow disease that substantially affects everyday function. Diagnosis must be confirmed by a veterinarian with experience in orthopaedics, supported by imaging and a written report. A specialist opinion may be requested to confirm severity and likely cause.
Coverage under this section applies when owners have followed the owner responsibilities listed in this document, including appropriate nutrition, weight management, and exercise restrictions during growth. Overfeeding, rapid weight gain, excessive jumping, forced running, or repeated high impact activity during the first year can worsen developing joints and may void coverage.
Parasites, Minor Illness, and Routine Care
Puppies can experience short term issues when moving to a new home, including stress related tummy upset, mild cough, or changes in appetite. Fleas, ticks, worms, and other parasites can also occur despite best practice prevention. This guarantee does not cover routine puppy care or minor, treatable conditions that are common in young dogs and typically resolve with standard veterinary treatment.
Vaccinations, boosters, ongoing parasite control, diet changes, grooming, routine desexing, and general wellness costs remain the responsibility of the buyer. Minor issues such as mild diarrhoea from diet change, ear infections caused by environment, or superficial skin irritation are not covered unless linked to a serious underlying congenital disease confirmed by a veterinarian.
What Is Not Covered
This Health Guarantee does not cover conditions that are primarily caused by owner handling, accidents, or environmental factors. Exclusions include, but are not limited to:
Injury from falls, traffic incidents, fights, rough play, or unsafe containment.
Illness caused by missed vaccinations or delayed boosters.
Illness linked to toxic ingestion, including human medications, chemicals, plants, bones, or unsafe foods.
Issues caused by obesity or prolonged overweight condition.
Behaviour concerns created or worsened by harsh training methods, lack of social exposure, or poor confinement practices.
Normal developmental matters such as teething issues, retained baby teeth, temporary fear phases, or ear carriage changes.
Elective procedures or cosmetic preferences.
Breeding related outcomes when the puppy is sold as a companion and later used for breeding without written consent.
Owner Responsibilities to Keep the Guarantee Valid
Raising a German Shepherd puppy requires structure and sensible management. Owners agree to the following:
Veterinary care: Schedule the first veterinary check within seventy two hours and maintain ongoing care, including vaccinations and parasite prevention.
Nutrition: Feed a quality diet suitable for large breed puppies, follow measured portions, and avoid rapid growth from overfeeding. Supplements should only be given with veterinary guidance.
Weight: Maintain a lean body condition. Extra weight increases stress on joints and can affect long term soundness.
Exercise: Provide age appropriate exercise and avoid repeated high impact activity during growth. Jumping from heights, long runs beside a bicycle, repetitive ball throwing on hard surfaces, and excessive stairs should be limited for young puppies.
Environment: Provide safe containment, clean water, shade, and protection from heat. Australian conditions require extra care in summer.
Training and handling: Use humane training methods and build confidence through positive structure, clear boundaries, and calm exposure to everyday life.
Social development: Introduce the puppy gradually to people, surfaces, and noises without flooding or frightening experiences.
Failure to follow these responsibilities may void this guarantee where the issue is reasonably connected to the breach.
Claim Process and Required Documentation
Any health concern that may fall under this guarantee must be reported promptly. Provide the following:
Buyer’s full name, puppy’s registered name if applicable, and date of purchase.
Veterinary diagnosis in writing, including clinic details and veterinarian contact information.
Copies of test results, imaging, and treatment notes.
Proof of the initial veterinary exam completed within the required time.
Clear photos or videos if relevant to the condition, such as gait concerns or visible abnormalities.
Furry German Shepherds may request a second opinion from a veterinarian of our choosing, at our cost for the consultation only, within a reasonable travel distance. This helps ensure fairness and clarity. Treatment should not be delayed if the puppy’s welfare is at risk.
Remedies Offered Under This Guarantee
If a covered condition is confirmed, Furry German Shepherds will offer one of the following remedies, depending on circumstances and what best supports the puppy’s welfare:
Replacement puppy: A replacement puppy of similar value may be offered from a future litter, when available. Timing depends on breeding plans and availability.
Partial refund: A partial refund may be offered for significant congenital conditions, reflecting the seriousness of the diagnosis and the impact on quality of life.
Return and refund: In rare situations involving severe illness confirmed to have been present prior to sale, return of the puppy may be requested, and a refund may be provided. The welfare of the puppy will guide this option, since many families prefer to keep and treat the puppy they have bonded with.
Veterinary expenses are not automatically covered. Any contribution toward treatment costs is offered at our discretion, based on the diagnosis and circumstances.
Return and Rehoming Policy
Furry German Shepherds remains a point of contact for the lifetime of the dog. If a buyer cannot keep the dog, contact should be made as soon as possible. We will assist with rehoming guidance and, where practical, may accept return of the dog. Refunds are not guaranteed for returns outside the terms of the health guarantee, yet the priority remains safe placement and responsible transition.
Dogs must never be surrendered to a shelter, rescue, or sold through third parties without first contacting Furry German Shepherds, unless immediate safety requires urgent action.
Temperament and Working Ability Statement
German Shepherd temperament is shaped by genetics and also by training, handling, and social exposure. This health guarantee does not cover normal variations in drive, guarding instincts, sensitivity, or confidence. Support and advice can be provided if challenges arise. Early intervention, good training, and routine often solve issues that owners initially find overwhelming.
Buyer Acknowledgement
Purchase of a puppy from Furry German Shepherds confirms the buyer has read this Health Guarantee, understands the responsibilities involved, and agrees to provide appropriate care. This guarantee is offered to protect puppy welfare and provide transparent standards for both parties.
Contact and Support
Questions about feeding, growth, training, exercise planning, or veterinary recommendations are welcome. Clear communication helps prevent small issues from becoming big ones. Contact Furry German Shepherds as soon as concerns arise, and keep veterinary records up to date for smooth support if needed.
